News 07/03/2010 - GSM Mobile Telephone Trials on Ascension Island
Small scale trials are currently being carried out to determine the technical feasibility of, and gauge potential demand for GSM mobile telephones services on the Island.
Test results from a single BTS installed at the Cable & Wireless Main Office in Georgetown have proven the system to be technically sound and feasible, specifically the successful and excellent quality interconnection of Voice, SMS and GPRS calls utilising ‘inbound roaming’; However further work, and ultimately final approval is required before a fully operational system can be implemented.
